Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel, over an alleged N700billion fraud.
The former governor, it was learnt, was taken into custody on Tuesday afternoon after his arrival at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja to honour an invitation.
Emmanuel’s arrest followed an ongoing probe into financial misconduct during his tenure as Akwa Ibom governor from 2015 to 2023.
Although the EFCC has yet to release detailed charges, the case, it was gathered, underscores the anti-graft agency’s renewed efforts to combat corruption and recover public funds.
Emmanuel has yet to comment publicly on the allegations.
