My brother will reject Tinubu’s appointment – Isaac Fayose

Isaac Fayose says his elder brother, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, will reject what he described as a “yeye appointment” following his appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency by President Bola Tinubu.

Isaac made the remarks in a Facebook post on Tuesday while reacting to media report recalling Ayo Fayose’s previous declaration that he would rather stay at home than work for the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government.

“My brother won’t take the yeye appointment… E lo fi okan bale,” Isaac wrote, accompanied by laughing emojis.

The younger Fayose had earlier criticised the appointment in a video posted on his Instagram page, arguing that the former Ekiti governor deserved a more prominent role in the Tinubu administration.

He said, “They said they gave my brother DG, DG, not a minister, not ambassador.

“They said they gave him DG, head of parastatal, chairman of a committee. They no see give him minister, they no give him ambassador.”

Drawing a comparison with former presidential aide Reno Omokri, Isaac added, “Even Reno Omokri sef, they gave him ambassador. They couldn’t give my brother ambassador. So why just chairman of a parastatal?”

He also alleged that the appointment was influenced by the recent visit of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to his residence.

“They gave my brother DG because Obi came on Saturday to visit me. So they said, no, we must enter that family,” he claimed.

Isaac further advised his brother to hand over the position to one of his children, insisting that the chairmanship did not reflect Ayo Fayose’s political stature.

President Tinubu on Monday appointed the former Ekiti governor as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency as part of 26 appointments into the boards of 10 federal government agencies and commissions.

The appointment came months after Fayose said he had no interest in serving in the Tinubu administration despite maintaining a cordial relationship with the President.

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television in October 2025, Fayose disclosed that Tinubu had offered him an appointment, which he declined.

He had said, “Have you seen me taking an appointment from the APC? Asiwaju asked me, ‘What would we give you?’ I said, ‘Nothing, sir.

“At 65, I’d rather be at home, being more responsible, doing other things that I need to do. I’ve served well. Two-time governor, I’ve done well. Tomorrow will hold itself.”

But the Presidency announced on Monday that Fayose’s appointment, alongside others, took immediate effect.
