Mid-term assessment; FOSAD scores Tinubu very low, labels govt colossal failure
The Forum of South-East Academic Doctors (FOSAD) has expressed grave concern and deep disappointment with the state of the Nigerian nation as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks two years in office.
FOSAD said contrary to the celebratory tone of the President’s May 29 anniversary speech, the reality on ground revealed a tragic tale of failed leadership, worsening insecurity, economic misery, institutional collapse, and national despondency.
FOSAD stated this in a statement jointly signed by its President, Dr. Stephen Nwala and Secretary General, Dr. Uzor Ngoladi, titled, “Tinubu’s two years in office: A colossal failure cloaked in propaganda.”
The Forum said it rejected, “in its entirety, the President’s self-congratulatory narrative of achievement, which is disconnected from the lived realities of millions of Nigerians. Instead of progress, Nigerians have witnessed two years of suffering, silence, and state-sanctioned failure.
“1. Insecurity and Terror Still Reign
Despite lofty promises, the security situation across the country remains dire. From Zamfara to Imo, Benue to Kaduna, criminal gangs, kidnappers, terrorists, and unknown gunmen continue to operate with impunity. The South-East remains militarized, yet unsafe. Communities are traumatized, and the state seems unable—or unwilling—to provide security.
“2. Hyperinflation and Unbearable Cost of Living
President Tinubu’s economic policies have plunged the country into historic levels of inflation. The removal of fuel subsidy without a coherent plan has crippled transportation and production. Inflation now exceeds 40%, and the prices of food and basic commodities have skyrocketed beyond the reach of ordinary citizens. Nigeria today faces the worst cost-of-living crisis in its history.
“3. Electricity Supply: A National Shame
Two years on, electricity remains epileptic. Blackouts have worsened, and tariff hikes continue to impoverish consumers. The national grid remains fragile, while government pretends reforms are underway. In the digital and industrial age, Nigeria still gropes in darkness.
“4. Collapse of the Education System
Under this administration, Nigeria’s education system is at its lowest ebb. JAMB and WAEC have been riddled with controversies. The so-called student loan scheme is a political gimmick with no clear funding strategy or implementation framework. It excludes the poor, burdens the future, and is clearly unsustainable. Funding for universities has declined, while brain drain continues unabated.
“5. White Elephant Projects over Real Development
FOSAD condemns the prioritization of grandiose, misplaced projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, a vanity project with limited national value, while basic infrastructure across Nigeria is in decay. Roads in the South-East remain death traps. Public hospitals are underfunded, and local economies are in ruins.
“6. Food Crisis: A Nation on the Brink
The cost of staple food items is at an all-time high. Farmers are being displaced by bandits and killer herdsmen, agricultural productivity is crashing, and the average Nigerian household is in a daily battle against hunger. The government has failed to implement any credible strategy to address food insecurity.
“7. Tinubu’s May 29 Speech: Propaganda, Not Progress
The Forum strongly condemns President Tinubu’s May 29, 2025 speech which seeks to whitewash failure and paint a false picture of progress. The speech was not only insensitive but also an insult to the intelligence of Nigerians. We urge the President to listen more to the cries of the people and less to the echo chambers of praise-singers and political contractors.”
FOSAD however called “on all well-meaning Nigerians, civil society groups, organised labour, and student bodies to speak out against the deepening national decay. We demand a government that prioritizes people over propaganda, substance over showmanship, and policy over politics.”
FOSAD further lamented, “Nigeria is not working. The hardship is real. The suffering is national. President Tinubu must wake up to the sobering truth: his government, two years on, is a colossal failure.”
