A violent clash between soldiers and armed gunmen in the Aba branch area of Ehime Mbano Local Government Area in Imo State has left many dead and injured.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, October 8, 2024.

Sources reveal that several soldiers were ambushed and killed by the armed group.

A witness described the rapidly deteriorating situation, saying it transformed the entire area into a battlefield.

“Some non-state actors attacked and killed soldiers in the area yesterday,” one source explained. “The whole place is engulfed in chaos, and troops have taken control of nearby communities.”

Residents, terrified for their safety, fled their homes as the sound of heavy gunfire echoed through the night. Many families left in a hurry, uncertain of when they might be able to return.

“We are terrified,” said one resident, who requested anonymity. “The sound of gunfire still lingers in our ears. We don’t know what will happen next. We are worried; Ehime used to be a peaceful place, and now we don’t know what’s going on.”

As at press time, there has been no official statement from either police or military authorities.
