The Unity and Reconciliation Forum of the Zamfara All Progressives Congress has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s move for local government autonomy.
In a statement issued in Gusau, Zamfara State capital, Chairman of the Forum, Mande Umar said the recent Supreme Court judgement on the autonomy of local government was a total success for democracy.
He said the court verdict came at the right to revive grassroots development through the autonomy of the local governments.
“As democrats and good Nigerians we have to appreciate the decision of the Supreme Court on financial autonomy of local government, saying, Apex Court has break the jinx, for good”, he added.
According to him, hitherto, local government administration had been thrown to the dust bin, but with the autonomy, people at the grassroots would enjoyed democracy dividend.
“Local Government autonomy would checkmate redonduncy amongst workers whereby the monthly salary would be justified,” he added.
He explained that with the local government autonomy, the electorate would have the right to make their choice during elections.
Umar further revealed that the financial autonomy at local government would enhance provision of infrastructure at the grassroots and proper financial management.
