Lagos State University (LASU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Transport Policy Academy to promote emotional intelligence, emotional awareness and social awareness among students and staff of the University.
The signing ceremony, which held on Wednesday, 16th September 2026, at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo, marked the commencement of a collaboration focused on education and human development.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, described the collaboration as a significant step towards equipping students and staff with essential skills for effective interaction and responsible participation in society.
She noted that in an increasingly interconnected world, academic knowledge alone was not sufficient, stressing the importance of self-awareness, empathy, effective communication and the ability to understand and appropriately respond to the emotions of others.
Professor Olatunji-Bello expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the Global Transport Policy Academy, Dr Segun Musa, for his continued support and contributions to the University.
She urged both parties to ensure that the collaboration translated into meaningful and sustainable programmes, noting that the University would sustain its commitments beyond her administration.
Responding, the Chairman of the Global Transport Policy Academy, Dr Segun Musa, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for her support and leadership, describing her as a source of inspiration and a strong pillar behind the Academy’s initiatives.
He noted that her encouragement had been instrumental to the Academy’s efforts to establish meaningful institutional collaborations.
Dr Musa said the Academy’s engagements had extended to other government agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, and noted that the collaboration with LASU represented another opportunity to advance initiatives in areas requiring greater attention to human and social development.
He assured the University of the Academy’s commitment to excellent delivery.
The collaboration is expected to provide a structured platform for initiatives that will strengthen emotional intelligence and social awareness within the University community, while complementing LASU’s commitment to holistic student development and a supportive environment for staff.
