Sevilla manager, Luis García Plaza, has hailed Super Eagles forward Akor Adams following the Nigerian striker’s impactful performance off the bench in their 2-1 win over Espanyol on Saturday.
Adams scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner in a 2-1 La Liga triumph over Espanyol at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium on Saturday.
Adams was brought on in the second half and made a significant contribution by delivering the decisive goal deep into stoppage time, securing all three points for Sevilla in a vital Round 35 match.
This comeback victory has further enhanced Sevilla’s chances of survival as they work to distance themselves from the relegation zone during a tense conclusion to the season.
Espanyol initially took the lead through Tyrhys Dolan due to a defensive error from the home team, which left Sevilla in pursuit of the game for extended periods.
Nevertheless, the hosts gradually increased their pressure, forcing Espanyol to retreat as the match neared its end.
Their determination bore fruit with an equalizer from Castrin, followed by Adams completing the comeback with a magnificent curling shot into the bottom corner, igniting celebrations throughout the stadium.
The goal held particular significance for the Nigerian forward, as it marked his ninth goal of the season, emphasizing his growing role in Sevilla’s attacking strategy.
In his post-match remarks, García Plaza shared his emotional response to the late winner and praised the collective spirit exhibited by his team.
“I truly celebrated Akor’s goal. Although I have only been here for six games, I feel a strong connection with the team,” the Sevilla coach stated in comments released on the club’s official website.
“The bench erupted in celebration, which is very significant. One must never stop believing. It was a testament to that,” García Plaza added.
