From Idris Khalid, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) has conducted a fumigation exercise at its office premises as part of efforts to promote environmental sanitation and provide a safe and healthy working environment.

Speaking during the exercise weekend, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Musa Adamu One, said the exercise was aimed at maintaining a clean, healthy and safe environment for staff, visitors and other stakeholders.

The coordinator, who was represented by the Environmental Safeguard Officer, Mr. Habila Simon Danlami, explained that the exercise was primarily designed to control mosquitoes, reptiles, insects and other pests that could pose health and safety risks within the premises.

The fumigation was led by a Sanitarian Officer with the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), Usman Abdullahi.

Abdullahi said the exercise was intended to control mosquito-borne diseases by eliminating potential breeding and hiding places for mosquitoes and other pests.

He urged staff to maintain proper hygiene and sanitation around the premises, stressing the need to prevent stagnant water and ensure proper disposal of waste.

According to him, maintaining a clean environment would help reduce the presence of mosquitoes, insects and reptiles and contribute to a healthier workplace.

Also speaking, Danlami said the major objectives of the exercise were to control and eliminate mosquitoes and other disease-carrying insects within the project premises, as well as reptiles and other pests that could pose risks to staff, visitors and neighbouring residents.

He said the exercise would improve environmental sanitation and promote a safe, healthy and conducive working environment for staff.

Danlami added that the initiative was in line with the project’s commitment to strengthening environmental health and safety.

Earlier, the BASEPA fumigation team conducted a thorough inspection of the L-PRES premises and identified areas considered vulnerable to mosquito and pest infestation for appropriate treatment.

The exercise covered both internal and external areas, including offices, surrounding grounds, drainage channels, vegetation and other potential breeding or hiding points for mosquitoes, reptiles and insects.

Meanwhile, staff of the L-PRES project expressed appreciation to the State Project Coordinator for facilitating the exercise, describing it as timely and necessary for effective service delivery.

In a statement issued by the project’s Communication and ICT Officer, Mohammed Abdul, the exercise was successfully conducted with the cooperation of the Environmental Safeguard Officer and other relevant staff.

Abdul called on other ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to prioritise regular fumigation of their office premises as part of efforts to protect the health of workers and enhance effective service delivery.
