… as Commissioner assures work will resume as soon as rains subside
The Edo State Government says the delay in the rehabilitation of the roads linking the state is due to the incessant rainfall which has made it impossible for the contractors to continue to work under such weather conditions.
The state government said contrary to the uncharitable utterances by some members of the public, all the roads leading to the state have been awarded to contractors for repairs, but work could not progress due to the incessant rainfall.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, made these clarifications in a statement on Monday.
According to Afegbua, ongoing repair works on some of the roads have to be stopped due to the heavy rainfall, citing the case of the Benin-Ore road currently undergoing repairs but had to be stopped due to the heavy rainfalls.
The Commissioner added that similar weather conditions have forced the stoppage of work on the Benin-Agbor Road being reconstructed into a 10-lane under a concensionare arrangement as well as the Benin-Warri road.
The statement therefore appealed to residents of the state plying all the affected roads to bear with the state government, assuring them that work would resume as soon as the rains subsided.
It further stated that the state government shared the pains of the people, adding that it is deeply concerned with the reality of the current state of the roads.
Afegbua stressed that Governor Monday Okpebholo and his team are working day and night to deliver all the dividends of democracy he earlier promised, including building cosmopolitan infrastructure.
The Commissioner assured that once the rains subside, the state government will expedite works on the affected roads to remedy the situation.
“We count on your understanding and cooperation, as we remain committed to rebuilding critical infrastructure across the state and delivering all the other dividends of democracy. Long live the good people of Edo State,” Afegbua stated.
