The Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta Zoo Park, popularly called FUNAAB Zoo Park has trained its staff and students undergoing the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) on Leadership and Manuscript Writing.

The training seminar held on Friday, was part of FUNAAB Zoo Park’s efforts under its new Management led by its newly appointed Director, Prof Olufemi Sam-Wobo to enhance the capacity of its staff and students on industrial training.

The training seminar provided a rare opportunity for all curators and SIWES students to gain valuable insights and improve their skills.

The remarkable training seminar focused on two critical topics: “Who is a Leader, and Leadership Traits” and “Manuscript and Manuscript Writing.”

In his opening remarks, Director of FUNAAB Zoo Park, Prof. Sammy O. Sam-Wobo, emphasized the significance of the training as a great privilege for the Curators and Industrial Training Students.

The seminar featured two distinguished resource persons, Prof. Sammy O. Sam-Wobo himself and Prof. Dedeke Gabriel of the Department of Pure and Applied Zoology, FUNAAB, as well as the current President of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC).

Dissecting the topic, “Leadership Traits and Development,”
Prof. Sam-Wobo led the first session on leadership, highlighting the objective of leadership development: to make leaders competent enough to function effectively, manage, and influence colleagues, students, and peers.

He also introduced the “3 P’s” of leadership: Person, Purpose, and People.

Speaking on “Manuscript Writing,” Prof. Dedeke Gabriel presented the second session, focusing on manuscript writing in a scientific context.

He detailed the procedures for preparing a manuscript for publication and for writing dissertations.

The Head of Curators, Mr. Emmanuel, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, appreciating Prof. Sam-Wobo and Prof. Dedeke for their sacrifice and the privilege extended to the Curators and SIWES students.

Giving post-training feedback, one of the SIWES students, Miss Bunmi, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting its value for her SIWES report and future dissertation work.

The seminar was attended by FUNAAB Curators, SIWES students, and final-year students from the Department of Pure and Applied Zoology, FUNAAB.
