Fuel price: Tinubu moves to mitigate pains of Nigerians

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has acknowledged the growing burden of rising fuel prices on Nigerians while initiating measures aimed at cushioning the impact.

Chief Press Secretary to the Jigawa State Governor, Hamisu Muhammad Gumel disclosed this in a statement.

According to the statement, the governor disclosed this during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in Dutse, where he addressed residents shortly after receiving the Emir of Dutse and other traditional leaders at the Hawan Bariki Durbar on Saturday.

He said President Tinubu is seriously disturbed with the situation and initiated plans to cushion the effects, including efforts to reduce transportation costs across the country.

The governor said the recent increase in petroleum prices, linked to ongoing developments in the Middle East, has placed additional pressure on citizens, particularly in transportation and cost of living.

He, however, assured that the Federal Government is not unaware of the situation, noting that President Tinubu has directed that steps be taken to ease the hardship.

“The President is aware of the burden this increase will place on our people and has already begun taking measures to reduce the impact, especially in the area of transportation,” Namadi said.

He explained that part of the intervention would focus on introducing alternative measures to bring down transportation cost, which has surged following the fuel price hike.

He added that the Jigawa State Government would compliment Federal efforts by implementing policies and support programmes aimed at cushioning the economic pressure on residents.

Governor Namadi emphasised that while the current situation may be challenging, ongoing interventions by both levels of government are expected to provide relief and stabilise living conditions for citizens.

This follows public concern over the rising cost of fuel and its ripple effect on transportation, food prices, and other essential services across the country.
