A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Lamorde, has reportedly died in Egypt.

He was aged 61.

An online medium, Premium Times, said Lamorde’s ‘close associates’ disclosed that the ex-EFCC boss died on Sunday in Egypt, where he had travelled for medical treatment.

But efforts to confirm this development have proved abortive. As of press time on Sunday morning, Lamorde’s family and the EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, could not be reached for comments.

Lamorde, who was born on December 20, 1962, joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1986 and retired as a Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2021.

While in the police, he was appointed the chairman of the EFCC and served as the boss of the agency between 2011 and 2015.

Lamorde served as the third executive chairman of the anti-graft agency.

He was appointed in an acting capacity as chairman of the commission on November 3, 2011, following the removal of Farida Waziri by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

On February 15, 2012, he was by the Senate as the third substantive chairman of the EFCC.

Details later…
