EPL: ‘You’re making same error as Liverpool’ – Neville warns Man United over new manager

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has said he would not mind if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the Red Devils job permanently, as long as he does a good job as a temporary boss.

He thinks the club is making the same error as Liverpool did in the 1990s, which was choosing former players as managers instead of proven managers.

After the draw against Burnley, Neville talked to Sky Sports and said that Manchester United are doing the same things they tried over ten years ago, when they signed Ryan Giggs after David Moyes was fired.

He said (via M.E.N): “I wouldn’t. I think there’s something that happened at Liverpool, didn’t we see this for about 25 or 30 years, when they were going through a time where they weren’t winning.

“You go through cycles where, and United have been doing this for 12 years now. They made Ryan [Giggs] in charge ten years ago, and then Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] took over, and it felt like going back to the old team again.”

Talking about what Solskjaer could bring to the club, Neville said: “It’s like trying a new one, then another one, and it’s almost like a cycle and a movie we’ve all seen before — like Groundhog Day.

“Look, what I do think is that Ole is someone who absolutely loves the club. He understands the job well because he has been working in it.

“The other names that are being mentioned, obviously, are Michael Carrick and Ruud van Nistelrooy. These are really fantastic people. I spent a lot of years playing with those guys, and they really love the club a lot.

“They will get the club, but they will still face a lot of pressure in the next four or five months if their results aren’t good. So look, they have to be ready for that.

“No matter who ends up getting it from those three mentioned, I hope all of them do well because it’s a really difficult job. Manchester United fired Ruben Amorim earlier this week and have not yet found a new coach. Some reports say Solskjaer or Michael Carrick might take over as temporary manager, and a full-time coach will be chosen later this summer.”
