Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has revealed the first gift he has for Xabi Alonso as Real Madrid boss.
He said Liverpool full-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold not playing the club’s last game of the season, would be a gift to the reported incoming Real Madrid boss.
The Netherlands gaffer went on to hail the England defender, saying he [the player] is way much better than most people give him credit for.
Slot spoke ahead of Liverpool’s very final game of the 2024-25 season which is against newly crowned FA,Cup champions, Crystal Palace.
According to Slot, it was not yet clear if Alexander-Arnold will start the game for Liverpool.
Liverpool will be lifting the Premier League title at Anfield on Sunday and Slot noted it would be emotional for the fans.
“He’s going to leave anyway so why not, it might be the first gift I can give Xabi Alonso,” he said.
“I wasn’t completely happy with every single minute he was on the training ground. In my opinion there were certain moments he could do more, to put it mildly.
“I told him he’s a much better defender than people think, but you don’t show it all the time.
“I haven’t decided on (if he plays….”
Alexander-Arnold could be in Real Madrid squad for the FIFA Club World Cup in June.
