EPL: I enjoy watching Arsenal, says Guardiola

Man City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Arsenal ahead of their crucial Premier League clash with Manchester City, saying he enjoys watching the Gunners and learns a lot from them.

Arsenal currently sit six points clear at the top of the table and remain firmly in contention for a league and European double, with a Champions League semi-final against Atlético Madrid also on the horizon.

As reported by BBC Sport on Friday, speaking ahead of Sunday’s meeting at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola described Mikel Arteta’s side as a team he respects and follows closely.

“Yes. I enjoy watching them. I learn a lot in many things,” he said.

Arsenal’s playing style has drawn mixed reactions this season, particularly due to their reliance on set-pieces, which account for 37 per cent of their 62 league goals. The Gunners have also struggled in open play recently, scoring just two goals from open play in their last five matches.

Despite the criticism, Guardiola insisted that Arsenal’s consistency and mentality make them a strong contender for the title, especially given their long wait for Premier League success.

“They have something that makes them unique. I know that,” he added.

He also pointed to the psychological edge teams gain from breaking long trophy droughts, referencing Manchester City’s own history before their recent dominance.

Arsenal’s recent defeat to Bournemouth allowed City to close the gap, while their own win over Chelsea further tightened the title race. According to Opta statistics, Arsenal’s chances of winning the title have dropped slightly, while City’s have improved heading into the final stretch.

Sunday’s clash is expected to play a decisive role in the destination of the Premier League title, with both sides under pressure as the season reaches its climax.
