Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid, ignoring his father’s recent move to the Social Democratic Party.
Bello, representing Kaduna North in the House of Representatives, was at the APC National Summit in Abuja, where Tinubu was adopted as the ruling party’s sole candidate for the 2027 election.
Recall that Bello’s father, Nasir El-Rufai, dumped the APC in March 2025, declaring that the party no longer reflects his values.
The former governor joined the SDP, promising to unite the opposition to defeat APC in 2027.
However, Bello’s support for Tinubu has sparked reactions.
Reno Omokri, an aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan mocked the former governor, saying, “If El-Rufai can’t convince his son to leave Tinubu, how will he convince Nigerians?”
The political split in the El-Rufai family deepened last year when another son of the former Kaduna governor, Bashir, launched a tirade against Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani on social media.
Bashir vowed that both of them would lose in 2027, claiming his father’s probe over alleged mismanagement of N423 billion was politically motivated.
Bashir tweeted, “Nobody is too big to be ‘elected out of office’ by the people. It will happen & wallahi nothing will happen. So forget all these intimidations flying up and down. Let us be patient.”
