An unidentified operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has slumped and died in Lagos.
The deceased operative was said to be attached to the Lagos Division of the anti-graft agency.
According to a video that went viral on Monday, the officer who was not in uniform slumped and died on a street in Lagos on Sunday.
The video shows the lifeless body of the officer being surrounded by sympathisers, including some police officers who searched the deceased officer’s bag for his proper identification.
As a result of the search, the deceased was discovered through his identity card to be an officer of the EFCC.
“He works with EFCC. His ID card is with him,” said a voice in the video clip.
While confirming the death of the operative on Monday, EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said that investigation had already been launched to unravel the mystery surrounding the officer’s death.
Recall that on January 15, a suspected Yahoo boy, Joshua Ikechukwu, shot an Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, Aminu Salisu, during a raid in the Onitsha area of Anambra State.
Salisu was part of the operatives of the EFCC team that had travelled from the Commission’s
zonal headquarters in Enugu on a mission to apprehend a group of suspected cyber criminals.
But the EFCC operatives were ambushed and Salisu was shot.
The EFCC spokesperson, who condemned negative narratives about the officer’s killing, stressed that the anti-graft agency would ensure justice is served.
