By Rita Nworie, Abakaliki

Eastland Electricity Distribution Limited , a subsidiary of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company has set a target of achieving between 95 and 98 per cent customer satisfaction in Ebonyi State, as it commenced activities for the 2026 Customer Service Week.

The company, which adopted the theme “The Extra Mile” for this year’s celebration, also announced an On-the-Spot Complaints Resolution Exercise scheduled for October 8 and 9, 2026, to enable customers resolve billing and other electricity-related grievances.

Speaking during the event at the EEDL office in Abakaliki on Tuesday, the Managing Director, Engr. Nnamdi Chuka-Nwosu, said the company had recorded a drastic reduction in protests and assaults against its personnel through improved engagement with consumers.

“Before I took over, we had serious cases of assault by customers, protests and all. But I think we’re doing a good job and all forms of protest have drastically reduced. We’ve been able to resolve a lot of cases,” Nwosu said.»

He said the company’s priority was to build a relationship where customers would not only receive electricity services but also feel heard and fairly treated whenever they raised complaints, adding that the target was to make between 95 and 98 per cent of consumers happy with EEDL’s services.

“We want to make sure we have a state where every customer is happy. Though we can’t satisfy everybody, but at least let’s make that impact. If we have 95 to 98 per cent of our customers happy, I think we’re getting somewhere,” he stated.»

Nwosu, however, appealed to customers to stop assaulting, threatening or holding electricity workers hostage, while urging field officers to demonstrate maturity and professionalism in dealing with consumers, particularly in volatile areas.

He also raised concerns over the continued vandalism of electricity infrastructure, including high-tension lines and other critical facilities, calling on host communities to protect EEDL installations and regard them as community assets.

The MD said improved electricity supply would have a direct impact on Ebonyi’s economic development, stressing that EEDL, in partnership with the state government, would work towards attracting industries, expanding businesses and boosting revenue through more reliable power supply.

Also speaking, EEDL’s Chief Commercial Officer, Mr. Cyprian Nwankwegu, attributed the improved relationship between the company and its customers to measures such as the On-the-Spot Bill Reconciliation Exercise, which he said had enhanced transparency and fairness in billing.

“An empirical evidence of the cordial relationship existing between us and our customers is shown in the reduction of complaints and protests witnessed previously. A lot is being done to ensure customer satisfaction,” Nwankwegu said, urging customers with unresolved complaints to participate in the October 8 and 9 exercise for prompt resolution.
