The Nigerian Guild of Editors, on Wednesday, mourned the sudden death of Dr. Samson Dotun Oladipo, describing him as a gentleman, distinguished journalist, former newspaper editor and publisher of Eagle Online.
In a condolence statement signed by its President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, NGE said it received Oladipo’s death with “profound sadness”, noting that his passing represented a painful loss to the journalism profession and the wider media community.

The NGE said Oladipo distinguished himself throughout his decades-long career through professionalism, courage, intellectual depth and an unwavering commitment to journalism and nation-building.
It said his contributions had left an indelible mark on the Nigerian media industry, particularly through his work as a journalist, editor and publisher.
The guild also highlighted his contribution to the growth of digital journalism through Eagles Online, noting that he remained deeply committed to the development of the Nigerian media and the digital landscape.
According to the NGE, Oladipo was a committed member of the guild whose contributions added impetus to the growth of the elite body of media professionals.
“His membership of NGE reflected his strong belief in professional solidarity and the importance of promoting ethical, credible and responsible journalism,” the statement said.
The guild described the late journalist as more than a media practitioner, saying he was also a respected colleague, mentor and contributor to the continuing evolution of the Nigerian media landscape.
It said his death would be deeply felt by his family, colleagues, friends and associates, as well as the journalism profession.
The NGE said Oladipo left behind a legacy of hard work, professional excellence, courage and service that would continue to inspire those who knew and worked with him.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, colleagues, friends and associates,” the guild said.
“At this difficult moment, our thoughts and prayers are with his family. We pray that God will grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear this painful loss as well as grant the departed journalist eternal rest.”
The guild prayed that Oladipo’s memory would remain a blessing to those who knew him and that his contributions to journalism would endure.
