Don’t marry women who can’t cook, Adeboye tells men

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has advised young men against marrying women who lack basic domestic skills or insist on extravagant wedding ceremonies that could lead to financial strain.

Speaking at the May edition of the church’s Holy Ghost Service, which held on Saturday, Adeboye warned that marriage decisions based solely on physical attraction or social pressure could result in long-term regret, describing such choices as a potential “deep trap.”

Addressing male congregants, the cleric cautioned against being swayed by outward beauty without spiritual discernment.

“There are many demons that are very beautiful. If you marry because of beauty, you might choose a demon. I’m not saying all beautiful people are demonic. If it’s beauty alone that leads you into marriage, it’s a deep trap,” he said.

Adeboye also stressed the importance of practical home skills, urging men not to marry women who cannot cook or show hospitality.

“Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook. We are talking of excellent counsel. Even if a prophet says this is your wife, if she can’t cook, say ‘Thank you, keep her,’” he stated, referencing biblical figures known for hospitality.

On wedding plans, the RCCG leader warned against entering marriages burdened by excessive financial demands.

“Don’t marry a girl who does not do things in moderation. No matter how close you are to a wedding, if your partner is suggesting a ceremony that will cost you everything and push you into debt, call it off,” he advised.

He further cautioned against excessive use of cosmetics, including artificial hair, eyelashes, and nails, urging men to question appearances that may conceal a person’s true self.

“If you look at the girl, the hair is not hers, the eyelashes are false, the nails are false, you must ask yourself, ‘What is behind the mask?’ Excessive makeup may suggest there is something to hide,” he said.

Adeboye cited biblical references, including the story of Jezebel, to reinforce his stance on modesty and authenticity.

This is not the first time Adeboye would give such advice.

In 2016, the video of a similar advice trended on social media, sparking frenzy.

In the YouTube video, he had said, “Don’t marry a woman who can’t cook. A girl who cannot cook will not be a good wife.”

He went on to issue his decrees for those on the hunt for a husband too.

“Don’t marry a man who has no job…A man is to provide for the house, not the other way around.”

Usually when such comments generate backlash, Adeboye responds by saying he was talking to his children, not outsiders.
