The authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have announced the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah crescent, signalling the beginning of the 12th Islamic month.
A message shared by Haramain, a Saudi-based online news platform, on X on Thursday said Friday is the first day of Dhul Hijjah.
Dhul Hijjah is the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, during which Muslims travel to Makkah for hajj.
The message indicated that June 15 would be the day of Arafat, while June 16 would be the day of Eid-el-Adha, the Muslims’ biggest festival.
Dhul Hijjah is considered a sacred month and a time of heightened devotion, reflection, and acts of worship.
