As he seeks a second term in office on Saturday, August 15, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, says his interest in dancing does not affect his responsibilities as governor.
Adeleke said this on Tuesday while speaking at the town hall meeting organised by Arise TV for candidates contesting Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.
The Accord Party governorship candidate, who described himself as a “prudent worker,” said dancing was part of his personality and a hobby he enjoyed.
He, however, insisted that he had delivered projects across various sectors despite his public displays of his dancing skills.
“I dance because in my family, we are jolly good fellows. As I am dancing, I am working. There is time for everything, there is time to dance, and there is time to work. Dancing does not stop me from working. I have delivered across all sectors,” Adeleke said.
Adeleke was apparently reacting to recent criticism of his dancing by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, who mocked him during an APC campaign rally in Osun State and urged voters to reject what he described as the “dancing governor.”
The Osun Governor said those offended by his dancing should learn to dance, stressing that the activity had not affected his performance in office.
“If they can’t dance, I can teach them how to dance,” he said.
He added that his people appreciated his personality and maintained that dancing remained only a hobby.
“Dancing is a hobby. That does not affect my work. My people love me,” he said.
Revealing his administration’s performance scorecard, Adeleke said his government had constructed and rehabilitated roads across the state, adding that solar-powered streetlights had been installed along some of the roads.
“As I’m speaking to you, I did not only build roads across Osun, I installed them with solar lights. This we did to provide security and enhance economic development,” he said.
He also said his administration had upgraded and rehabilitated more than 200 primary healthcare facilities, which he said were equipped with electricity and clean water.
“As of today, we have upgraded and rehabilitated over 200 primary healthcare facilities to global standards, equipped with electricity and clean water,” Adeleke said.
The Osun Governor added that qualified engineers had certified the projects carried out by his administration as meeting international standards.
Adeleke is seeking re-election on the platform of the Accord Party after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, which he represented when he won the 2022 governorship election.
He is facing the All Progressives Congress candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, among others, in the August 15 election.
