… as staff applaud institution’s leadership

By Idris Katib

From a “greenfield to an ultra modern facility”, Crescent University, Abeokuta has built a world class basketball facility to enhance students’ training and competitions. This follows a sterling performance of its sports team at the recently concluded Gateway Tertiary Institution Games 2026,reports Idris Katib, a Principal Assistant Registrar in charge of Public Relations.

As part of its commitment to build more capacity in sports development and engage students constructively, the management of Crescent University, Abeokuta has unveiled a newly constructed basketball court to the university community. A hitherto greenfield is now an aesthetic ultra modern sporting facility.

The new basketball court was unveiled at the university’s online platform with postings of a cross section of aesthetic pictures of the facility.

In a release by Chairman, Sports Committee, Dr Surajudeen Jolaosho expressed appreciation to the leadership of Crescent University for building a befitting court to enhance students’ drills.

Congratulating the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibraheem Gbajabiamila and the entire university community for this feat, he said the sports team remained committed to making the institution proud at every competition across all games.

In a related development, a Senior Counselling Psychologist, Mrs Fausat Aremu, lauded the university management for the basketball court project and other sport intervention initiatives.

She emphasized that ” as counsellors, we recognize that sports is a key measure for reducing drug abuse and other maladjusted behaviours among students.

“This facility will provide our students with a healthy outlet to spend their leisure time productively, instead of engaging in activities that negatively affect their cognitive and social development. We commend management for this great initiative and pledge to continue sensitizing students to make good use of the centre. “

In his assessment, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr Mikhail Akindoyin said “the initiative would promote sports and other co-curricular activities on campus for all round developments of the students.”
