Socio-political activist and US-based medic, Dr. Marindoti Oludare, has applauded the suit filed against the states by the federal government, describing it as a pathway for the much desired restructuring of the Nigerian nation.
Oludare, who is Convener of Social Rehabilitation Gruppe (APC), a nationwide movement for ethical reconstruction and good governance, expressed the conviction over the weekend, at an interview session on Television Continental (TVC).
He particularly tasked the state’s to counter-sue the federal government for devolution of power to constituent states of the federation.
The activist, without prejudice to the yet-to-heard suit, remarked that beyond its focus on local government autonomy, said it would also afford the 36 states, who are defendants, the opportunity to ask for ingredients of true federalism such as state police, devolution of powers, and resource control.
Musing on the legal tussle, Oludare said, “I know it will definitely end in negotiation, and I think the governors should also use this as an opportunity to ask from the federal government for autonomy and independence”.
He recalled saying, “the former governor of my state, (the late Rotimi) Akeredolu was so vocal when it comes to the area of security, and of resource control.”
According to him, devolution of powers to constituent states of the federation was best pronounced in the First Republic, when the regions were able to develop at their own pace, bringing about socio-economic transformation and human empowerment.
He particularly cited his base, the United States, as a veritable reference point from which Nigeria can draw good lessons.
He commended the strategic moves being made by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restructure the country through the instrumentalities of the law and social justice.
Meanwhile, Marindoti, who is also the Director of Contacts and Engagements for Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation Foot Soldiers Independent Council (LACO-FSIC), had earlier remarked that Ondo, his home state, was poised for rapid development with the level of ongoing interaction between Governor Aiyedatiwa and prospective foreign investors.
