The May edition of the widely followed public discourse platform, Boiling Point Arena, is set to turn attention to one of society’s most debated institutions—marriage—at its upcoming session themed “Marriage in Modern Times: Love, Money, Loyalty and the Crisis of Commitment.”

Scheduled for Sunday May 10, 2026 at 8pm, the event will bring together scholars, professionals, faith leaders, and members of the public to interrogate the evolving dynamics shaping marital relationships in contemporary society.

Central to the discussion will be two notable guest speakers: Apostle Lawrence Achudume, General Overseer, Victory Life Bible Church International, and prominent lawyer and business tycoon, Princess Yemi Bajowa, both expected to bring contrasting but complementary perspectives to the subject.

The once-in-a-month current affairs programme, now in it’s 43rd edition, is to be transmitted via Zoom and broadcast live on seven partner radio stations across Lagos, Ogun and Delta States.

With an incredibly large online following and wide listenership base, Boiling Point Arena is anchored by a media professional and public relations strategist, Dr Ayo Arowojolu.

Foremost traditional ruler, the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, Oba Prof Saka Adelola Matemilola is the Keynote Speaker and Chair to herald the debate over a two-hour duration.

Organisers say the conversation will examine how modern realities—ranging from economic pressures and changing gender roles to social media influence and shifting cultural expectations—are redefining the foundations of marriage.

Once largely anchored on tradition, duty, and lifelong commitment, marriage is now increasingly influenced by considerations such as financial stability, emotional compatibility, personal ambition, and lifestyle choices. While some argue that these changes reflect social progress, others believe they are contributing to rising cases of instability and declining commitment in relationships.

The session is expected to probe critical questions, including whether love alone is still sufficient to sustain marriage, the role of money in marital stability, and whether loyalty remains a core expectation or a negotiable value in modern relationships.

According to the organisers, the engagement will provide a platform for balanced reflection across moral, psychological, and socio-economic dimensions of marriage, while also drawing from real-life experiences and societal trends.

Boiling Point Arena, known for its hard-hitting but balanced conversations on social issues, says the May edition will go beyond surface-level debate to confront what it describes as “the quiet crisis reshaping family life in contemporary society.”

As anticipation builds, the event is expected to generate wide public interest, particularly among young adults and married couples navigating the complexities of modern relationships.

The discourse will ultimately seek to answer a pressing question: is marriage evolving in line with modern realities, or is it facing a deeper crisis of values and commitment?

In the recent past, several leading political actors and eminent economic and thought leaders have featured as Guests among which are former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Niger State Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, Prof Toyin Fálọlá, Prof Wande Abímbọ́lá, Bishop Mathew kukah, Akogun Tola Adeniyi, Pastor Femi Emmanuel and Prof Farooq Kperogi.

Last month, April, was a hotly debated conversation during which Prof Pat Utomi and Presidential Adviser, Daniel Bwala took turns to assess the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu.

A well publicized discourse, Boiling Point Arena, will be broadcast live on WASH 94.9FM, Sweet 107.1FM, Roots 97.1FM, Erimbe 94.7FM, Women Radio 91.7FM, Opera Tune 106.3FM, and Kruzz 92.9FM as well as a cable television, NSTV on GoTV channel 316.

Boiling Point is a news and general interest Group comprising of eminent personalities including over 300 Professors, media professionals, technocrats, industry leaders, High Court Justices, traditional rulers, security top shots and several others.
