From Khalid Idris Doya, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Government has approved the installation of solar-powered streetlights in four major roads across the city, aiming to enhance security and beautify the metropolis.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Titus Ketkuka, while speaking to journalists on the outcome of last State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir.

Titus stated that the project will commence with the lighting of four key roads recently constructed by the current administration.

Prof. Ketkuka explained that the solar streetlights will allow residents to move freely at night without fear, thereby improving public safety.

The roads slated for installation include Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Street, Sabon Kaura; Atiku Abubakar Street – Bypass from Maiduguri Road to Bauchi state House of Assembly; the road from Awala Roundabout to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport, and street from Awala Roundabout to the Maiduguri Bypass (Tirwun).

Also, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Lawal Mohammed Rimin Zayam, who announced the government’s plan to address the issue of ghost workers in the education sector through a comprehensive verification exercise for teachers.

Also present was the Commissioner for Health, Hon. Sani Mohammed Dambam, who revealed that the Council approved improved remuneration and welfare packages for doctors and other health workers in the state.

These include full salary payments under the CONTISS and CONHESS structures to help stem the challenge of medical personnel leaving the country for better opportunities abroad.

He added that while the federal government allocates between 5% and 7% of its annual budget to the health sector, Bauchi State’s allocation exceeds 15%, reflecting its commitment to strengthening the healthcare system.
