Bauchi Gov Bala Mohammed set to dump PDP for ADC

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Tuesday, revealed plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress, citing the party’s potential to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.

He made this disclosure when he received a delegation from the ADC, led by a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, at the Government House, Bauchi, on Tuesday.

Governor Mohammed said the ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, had already extended a hand of fellowship, inviting him to join the party.

He stated that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, is currently headless.

He expressed regret that all efforts to reconcile differences within the party have failed.

Governor Mohammed confirmed being under pressure from his supporters to explore other options available to him.

He said, “We have found ourselves in a very serious ambivalence where our party is headless. We have to find a place within the opposition.

“That is where our fate and political destiny are taking us. And ADC appears to be a very enduring and acceptable platform.”

Governor Mohammed stressed that the decision to join the ADC is not taken lightly, noting that the party’s structure and leadership make it an attractive option.

He said discussions are ongoing and that the ADC is the preferred destination, but other options are being explored.

Babachir Lawal, who led the ADC delegation, said the party’s national chairman sent them to Bauchi to invite Governor Mohammed to join the ADC, citing his leadership qualities and experience.

Lawal warned that Nigeria faces disaster if the current government continues in power beyond 2027, emphasising the need for opposition parties to unite and challenge the APC.

“We are here in Bauchi today at the instance of our National Chairman, Senator David Mark. Senator Mark sent us here because he’s fully aware that the coming battle between us in 2027 to elect new people to lead Nigeria can only be successful if all the various segments of the country that have good intentions and goodwill towards Nigerians are able to unite to stand and resist the impending disaster that is waiting for us in 2027,” Lawal said.
