A teacher, Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru, who was abducted along the Anka Road in Zamfara State, has reportedly been killed by his kidnappers after collecting N3 million ransom by his family.
Journalist Bakatsine, who reports on conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West, disclosed this in a post on X on Saturday.
Bakatsine said the victim’s family paid the ransom in a bid to secure his release, but he was still killed by the kidnappers.
“SAD UPDATE: Malam Mustapha Yahaya Maru, a teacher from Maru, who was abducted along Anka road, has reportedly been killed by his captors despite his family paying ₦3 million ransom.
“A devastating reminder that paying ransom is no guarantee for survival. May Allah forgive him, grant him Jannatul Firdaus, and comfort his family and everyone mourning this tragic loss,” Bakatsine wrote.
Recall that Maru was abducted in May alongside some of his colleagues while returning to the Federal Government College, FGC, Anka, in Zamfara State.
At the time of the abduction, Bakatsine had reported that the incident occurred along the Anka Road and urged prayers for the safe release of the victims amid worsening insecurity in the state.
Authorities had yet to officially confirm the reported killing as of the time of filing this report.
