Organised labour on Friday, opposed some state Governors saying minimum wage should be paid based on capacity of their respective states. Labour stressed that the concept of a national minimum wage is not arbitrary. Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, on Thursday, upheld the ruling of a Lagos State High Court, confirming a five-year prison sentence for Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, popularly called Baba Ijesha, for the sexual assault of a 14-year-old minor. The Appellate Court, in a judgment delivered by Justice Folashade Ojo, upheld the conviction of Baba Ijesha on two counts, specifically indecent touching and sexual assault of the minor. The offences include operating without registration, poor documentation, and stocking of ethical products without the supervision of a pharmacist. Agency Report The National Average Cost of a Healthy Diet per adult a day stood at N1,041 in May 2024, the National Bureau of Statistics has said. The NBS revealed this in its CoHD report for May 2024, released on Friday in Abuja. The bureau said that the CoHD in May increase by one per cent compared to the N1,035 recorded in April. Lagos State Coroner’s Court sitting in Ikorodu has granted the Aloba family permission to conduct an independent autopsy and toxicology test on their late son and singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly called Mohbad. Agency Report The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps says 17 persons died in 16 road crashes during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration in the state.
