Several journalists and activists have been beaten, handcuffed, and taken by security agents to unknown locations in Calabar, Cross River State. Our correspondent reports that the managing editor of the online newspaper CrossRiverWatch, Mr Jonathan Ugbal, is among the arrested journalists. It was gathered that they were taken by security personnel, along with other activists who engaged in a peaceful protest early Thursday morning, to an undisclosed location. Hoodlums, on Thursday, looted the newly built Nigeria Communication Commission Industrial Park in Kano State as the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest kicked off across the country. The vandals invaded the Kano Information and Communication Technology Centre, just days before its scheduled launch. They set the building on fire and made off with valuable equipment. Pictures posted online show youths leaving the scene with looted items, including computers, furniture, and electronics.
Some of the protesters partaking in the nationwide demonstration against hardship, on Thursday, set up bonfire in front of Government House, Kano, on Thursday morning. The protesters who had come from different parts of the metropolis had converged on the Government House, where Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was to address them. But some of them assembled tyres and set them ablaze as they were approaching the gate. This made security operatives at Government House to fire gunshots and teargas to disperse the protesters. Police in Borno have declared a 24-hour curfew in the state amid the ongoing hunger protests across the nation. State Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Kenneth Daso, who announced this in a statement on Thursday, said the curfew was on the basis of security concern following the bomb explosion of Wednesday. Several protesters are marching towards the Central Business District and Presidential Villa, in the Federal Capital Territory. Hundreds of the protesters, mostly northern youths, are currently marching from Berger Junction and Wuse Market towards the Central Business District. “We are marching to the (Presidential) Villa.
