In a bold move to reposition the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for 21st-century security challenges, the Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, on Sunday commissioned a state-of-the-art Tactical Training Ground at the FCT Command Headquarters, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

The facility, described by senior officers as a turning point for the Corps, is the latest evidence of Prof. Audi’s drive to build an elite, disciplined and mission-ready force.

Under his leadership, the NSCDC has prioritized capacity building as the foundation of professionalism. The new training ground, designed to replicate real-life operational scenarios, will subject personnel to rigorous drills aimed at improving physical endurance, tactical proficiency and mental resilience across difficult terrains.

“Nemo dat quod non habet — No one gives what he does not have,” Prof. Audi said at the commissioning.
“No security organization can deliver excellence without first investing in the competence of its personnel. This facility is about preparing our men and women to meet threats before they become crises.”

The project was driven at the command level by the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola O. Odumosu, in direct alignment with the CG’s transformation blueprint. It signals a deliberate shift from routine parade-ground training to practical, mission-oriented exercises that mirror the realities officers face in the field.

As the lead agency for the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, the NSCDC’s mandate has continued to expand. From disaster management and counter-terrorism support to regulating private guard companies, conflict resolution, and agro-rangers operations, the Corps is now at the frontline of Nigeria’s internal security architecture.

Security analysts note that Prof. Audi’s focus on training infrastructure directly addresses one of the biggest gaps in Nigeria’s security sector — preparedness. The Tactical Training Ground is expected to produce officers who are not only physically fit but also tactically sound and mentally equipped to respond with speed, courage and professionalism.

“The effectiveness of any security agency lies in the quality of its personnel,” a senior NSCDC officer said. “With this facility, the CG is ensuring that NSCDC personnel are ahead of emerging threats.”

Since assuming office, Prof. Audi has pushed reforms centered on discipline, technology, and specialized training. The commissioning in Abuja reinforces that vision and positions the Corps to sustain public confidence as a dependable and proactive security institution.

As threats evolve, the NSCDC under Audi appears determined to evolve faster — one training ground at a time.
