The Students Union Government (SUG) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has honoured the Chief Executive Officer of the World Energy Council Nigeria, Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, with an award of excellence in recognition of his sustained philanthropic interventions and contributions to community development.
The award was presented in recognition of Dr. Wunti’s commitment to improving the lives of people through various initiatives in education, healthcare, agriculture, information and communication technology (ICT), youth empowerment, leadership development, mentorship and scholarships.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the public relations officer of Bala Wunti Support Organisation (BWSO), Kamal Ibrahim, the recognition also highlighted Dr. Wunti’s efforts in supporting students and promoting digital access to education.
Through his pet project, BWSO, Dr. Wunti recently provided free Wi-Fi services at strategic locations across the Yelwa and Gubi campuses of ATBU, aimed at enhancing digital learning, teaching and research.
He has also sustained sponsorship of the university’s Final Year Students Dinner, among other interventions targeted at supporting students and the wider university community.
Presenting the award on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of ATBU, Prof. Ibrahim Hassan, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Sani Usman Kunya, described the honour as an acknowledgement of Dr Wunti’s impact-driven philanthropy and contributions to the wellbeing of communities and vulnerable groups.
He urged the philanthropist to sustain his humanitarian interventions and continue supporting people in need.
Over the years, Dr. Wunti has invested in initiatives aimed at creating opportunities, strengthening communities and empowering individuals, earning recognition for his commitment to service and human development.
Responding through the CEO of BWSO, Malam Mukhtar Ahmed Jarmajo, Dr Wunti expressed appreciation to the university management and the students’ leadership for considering him worthy of the honour.
He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote education, youth development and community advancement.p
In a further demonstration of his support for education and youth intellectual development, Dr. Wunti launched two copies of the ATBU Final Year Students Magazine and donated N2 million to support student creativity, publishing and academic expression.
In a related development, the SUG also conferred an Award of Community Service Leadership on the CEO of BWSO, Malam Mukhtar Ahmed Jarmajo, in recognition of his leadership and contributions to community development.
The two recognitions, according to the statement, underscore the growing impact of the Bala Wunti philanthropic movement and its commitment to building a more empowered, connected and prosperous society.
