Heavily armed persons suspected to be herdsmen have killed over 20 farmers in four villages in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
It was learnt that the armed herdsmen launched their attacks and unleashed terror on the villagers in the early hours of the weekend.
The affected communities where the suspected armed herdsmen wreaked havoc include Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, Ademekun Camp, and Aba Alajido Camps within Ala Elefosan.
Meanwhile, no fewer than 14 bodies have so far been recovered from the affected communities as the search for other missing persons continue.
Regent of Ademekun Village, Princess Adelowo Adekemisola,
confirmed that the assailants infiltrated the communities before shooting sporadically and indiscriminately at the residents.
According to her, “The herdsmen entered our community through the Edo-Ondo boundary and began shooting sporadically. During Akeredolu’s administration, Amotekun came to our rescue, and the perpetrators were arrested and paraded. Since then, peace had returned to the community until now.”
Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, while confirming the attack, stated that police operatives had been deployed in the affected areas to restore security, law and order.
