The outgoing Chairman of Ajebo Road Housing Estate CDA/Property Owners Resident Association, Abeokuta, Dr Ayoola Ajasa, has formally handed over leadership after a two-year tenure marked by infrastructural upgrades, security improvements, and renewed community cohesion.

The baton of office is now firmly taken over by a new leadership led by a prominent Surveyor, Bankole Olakunle who has a proven record of experience in project planning and execution and practice in Lagos.

Delivering his valedictory address at the Estate’s Annual General Meeting held on Sunday, Dr Ajasa, a Mass Communication Scholar and University Don, expressed gratitude to residents and stakeholders, describing his administration asy one driven by “integrity, vision, and unity.”

He said the estate, which his team inherited in April 2024 with “pressing challenges,” now stands more united, following deliberate efforts to reconcile aggrieved zones and strengthen collaboration among residents.

Among the key achievements highlighted was the construction of a central estate gate structure serving as both a secretariat and security post, currently at about 75 percent completion.

Ajasa also cited the installation of 12 speed breakers along Wole Soyinka Road, disclosing that while seven were funded by the government, five were completed through community contributions.

On power supply, the Chairman disclosed that the estate secured an additional transformer for Zone 5, easing pressure on existing infrastructure and improving electricity distribution in the area.

He further commended residents of Zones 7, 8, and 11 for self-funded road construction, alongside the Federal Government-backed Central Avenue Road project facilitated by Hon. Tunji Egbetokun.

Other improvements included the beautification of the estate entrance with solar-powered lighting, enhanced security logistics such as patrol support and police collaboration, and health awareness programmes addressing issues like hypertension and mental health.

Despite these gains, Dr Ajasa acknowledged ongoing challenges, particularly inadequate funding and also identified waste management difficulties, inconsistent electricity supply under the current distribution band, and a myriad of other challenges.

Addressing the incoming leadership, Dr Ajasa urged continuity in governance priorities, including completion of the estate secretariat, improved electricity arrangements, resolution of financial administrative gaps, and stronger engagement with waste management authorities.

He also called for sustained unity and adherence to a decentralised governance model that leverages zonal coordinators for effective communication.

He paid tribute to key contributors, including security officials, community leaders, and volunteers, while also honouring deceased members of the estate.

Reflecting on his tenure, Ajasa described leadership as “a service marked by sacrifice and fulfilment,” adding that the administration leaves behind “an estate better than it was found.”

“We came, we served, and by God’s grace, we leave this estate better than we found it,” he said.

A total of 15 eminent personalities in the locality were presented varying awards and honours for exemplary contribution and service to community.
