Flight operations, on Tuesday, resumed at the Murtala Muhammad Airport domestic terminals in Lagos.

This is coming on the heels of the suspension of the strike jointly declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.

Recall that NLC and the TUC had earlier on Tuesday suspended the indefinite strike which commenced on Monday.

With the aviation unions’ decision to join the strike, flight operations across the country were grounded.

But the airlines have begun to resume operations after losing a whole day of parking their aircraft.

At the MMA2, as of 11:00 am, passengers had besieged the entrance of the airport waiting for the aviation unions to call off the strike.

But with the suspension of the strike for one week, flights operations are gradually resuming.

As of the time of filing this report, a ValueJet flight to Abuja was already boarding. The same airline was also at the same time boarding another flight to Port Harcourt.

The airport environment, however, remained relatively deserted following the strike’s suspension as operators were beginning to resume operations.

National Union of Air Transport Employees General Secretary, Comrade Ocheme Aba, confirmed the suspension of the strike, saying all workers under the union have been mobilized back to their offices.

“Due to the agreement with the presidency, the strike will be relaxed for one week starting from now to enable the tripartite committee concluded deliberations on the minimum wage negotiation so, flight operations will resume now, have resumed actually because all the blockages have been removed,” Aba said.
