The Muslim community in Abeokuta has declared its support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly called YAYI, ahead of the 2027 elections.
The endorsement was announced during the eighth-day Fidau prayer for the late Alhaji Shakiru Ayilara, popularly known as Shako Alhaji, at Sheikh Sugar Mosque, Bode Olude, Abeokuta.
Speaking at the gathering, Sheikh Iskeel Sugar described Adeola’s emergence as timely, declaring that Ogun West deserved the opportunity to produce the next governor of the state.
The cleric said Adeola had demonstrated his capacity for leadership through numerous infrastructural and humanitarian interventions across Ogun State.
He also highlighted the Senator’s support for the Muslim community, including the sponsorship of pilgrims and construction of mosques.
His position was supported by hundreds of Muslim faithful at the prayer, including the Baba Adini of Muslims in Yorubaland, Edo and Delta states, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Ishola.
Responding, Adeola thanked the Muslim community for its support and commiserated with the wife and family of the deceased, describing the large turnout as evidence of the positive impact Shako Alhaji made during his lifetime.
He disclosed that the late APC chieftain had been considered to serve as his coordinator in Abeokuta North Local Government Area before his sudden death.
Adeola promised to continue supporting the bereaved family, while praying that Allah would grant them the strength to bear the loss.
The prayer was attended by Adeola’s running mate, Alhaja Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun; Hon. Olumide Osoba; Hon. Olaolu Olabimtan; Hon. Kayode Oladele, and other political and religious leaders from across Ogun State.
