Farmers in Zamfara State have started receiving assorted fertilisers at subsidised prices as pledged by the former governor and he incumbent Senator representing Zamfara West Senatorial District, Sen. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar.
Kick-starting the exercise in Gusau, Kaura and Talata Mafara Local Government Areas of the State, Chairman of the distribution committee, Hon. Lawal M Liman said prices of the commodity have been slashed to an affordable level for the farmers across 147 political wards of the State with a view to assisting them.
The chairman stated that each bag, which typically sold for N45,000 in the market, would now be available at N20,000, courtesy of the Senator’s subsidy.
According to Hon. Lawal M Liman, in addition to 50% discount on the commodity, the former governor opted to pay for its transportation to all the Local Government Headquarters of the State, so as to give the beneficiaries easy access to the commodity.
It is against this backdrop that farmers across the State have been trooping to their respective Local Government Headquarters and obtaining the subsidised commodity with relative ease while showering encomiums to its provider.
At the event, Hon. Lawal M Liman warned officials entrusted with the sales of the commodity not to allow middlemen to use the opportunity offered to farmers by Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar to infiltrate the sales points in an attempt to hijack it.
