A Moroccan woman, Khadija Diob, has denied claims that she was detained or restricted while in Nigeria, confirming she has returned to Morocco where she is now safe and enjoying freedom with her family.

According to Diob, contrary to claims attributed to her estranged husband, Nasir, that she was detained or restricted, she’s currently in good health, both physically and mentally.

The Moroccan woman made the clarification in a video clip shared on the verified Facebook page of Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Dr Ahmad Gumi.

Dibo said, “I went back to Morocco six months ago. Now I’m in Morocco with my family safely and I enjoy my freedom.

“Everything Nasir claims that I was detained and restricted are false. I was detained when living with him but now, Alhamdulillah, I’m in good health, physically and mentally.”

The Moroccan also explained how she came to establish a relationship with Gumi and his family after arriving in Nigeria.

She explained that Nasir took her and her mother to visit Gumi because he regarded the Islamic scholar as someone who had helped him during a difficult period of his life.

She said Nasir described Gumi as being “like a father to him” and arranged for them to meet the scholar and his family.

Diob said during the visit, her mother entrusted her to Gumi as her guardian and representative in Nigeria because she had no other person to turn to.

“My mother entrusted me to the Sheikh and told him that he should be my guardian and representative here, that I didn’t have anyone else. If I ever needed guidance or advice, I should go to him,” she said.

She added that Nasir later encouraged her to maintain contact with Gumi’s family, particularly his wife, and attend family occasions such as Eid celebrations.

According to her, Nasir wanted her to mingle with the family so she could learn about Nigerian culture and integrate into society.

She said this relationship became important when she allegedly became critically ill and claimed that Nasir refused to take her to hospital.

“That was why when Nasir refused to take me to hospital when I was critically condition, I went to Sheikh for help because I didn’t have anyone to turn to other than the Sheikh,” she said.

Diob further alleged that Gumi intervened several times to mediate between her and Nasir and offered financial assistance to help them purchase items they lacked in their home in an effort to save their marriage.

She said she eventually decided to file for divorce through her lawyer, Barrister Bilkisu, on grounds of alleged harm.

The Moroccan woman also accused Nasir of presenting a false picture of his lifestyle and financial situation before their marriage.

“As for what happened after my mother left, the defendant Nasir lies about everything. He faked his whole lifestyle, he faked his financial status, he faked all his realities to me,” she alleged.

Diob said one of the conditions she agreed with Nasir before their marriage was to have separate accommodation from his first wife.

She claimed that when she arrived in Nigeria, Nasir had not prepared the accommodation, forcing her to stay in a hotel with her mother for two weeks.

She said although he later rented a house, it lacked basic household items.

Diob thanked Gumi and his family for supporting her during her stay in Nigeria and apologised for the controversy surrounding them.

“I thank Sheikh and his family for hosting me in Nigeria and I apologised for putting them in this condition as they are now the talk of the town just for helping me,” she said.
