From Tom Garba,Yola

In a bold political statement, Adamawa State governorship aspirant, Chief Maurice Vunobolki, on Tuesday donated ₦100 million to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he formally re-engaged party stakeholders and strengthened his ambition to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Vunobolki kicked off a busy day of high-level consultations with a formal visit to the PDP State Secretariat in Yola, where he officially notified the party leadership of his return to the PDP and declared his intention to vie for the governorship in 2027.

Addressing party executives, the aspirant described the PDP as his political home and called for unity, fairness, and inclusiveness among members to ensure the party’s success in the coming elections.

The PDP State Chairman of the Caretaker Committee warmly welcomed Vunobolki’s return, commending his resilience, consistency, and commitment to justice.

He noted that Vunobolki is the first aspirant to formally declare his governorship interest under the PDP platform and assured him of a level-playing field and transparent primary process.

The chairman further advised the aspirant to take his message and manifesto directly to the grassroots across the 21 local government areas of the state.

The engagement later moved to a larger stakeholders’ meeting at Bridge Hotel, Yola, where PDP elders, state executives, and grassroots leaders turned out in large numbers.

Speaker after speaker praised Vunobolki’s leadership qualities, philanthropic gestures, and deep connections with communities across Adamawa, assuring him of their support.

In his address, Vunobolki explained that his return to the PDP came after deep political reflection, noting that his brief stint in the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not align with his vision for inclusive and people-centered politics.

He described the PDP as “the true people’s party” and stressed the need for robust membership registration and internal strengthening.

To demonstrate his seriousness and commitment, Chief Vunobolki announced a ₦100 million donation to the party. The donation was split into ₦50 million for general party activities in Adamawa State and ₦50 million to support the forthcoming local government council elections. He also pledged active personal involvement in mobilization efforts across the state.

Political observers described the donation as one of the most substantial early financial commitments made by any governorship aspirant in the state.

Vunobolki commended the developmental efforts of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and stated that Adamawa would need “an experienced, competent and visionary hand” to build on the current administration’s achievements after 2027.

The day’s activities ended with a closed-door meeting at his residence with the 21 local government PDP chairmen and council chairmanship aspirants, during which he promised logistical and strategic support for the upcoming local government elections.

In response, the local government leaders expressed gratitude for his intervention and reaffirmed their readiness to collaborate with him.

With these strategic engagements and his significant financial contribution, Chief Maurice Vunobolki has firmly positioned himself as one of the earliest and most visible contenders in the race for Adamawa State Governor in 2027.
