The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Bayelsa state Chapter has been described as the most structured party in the state, with 17 executive members across the 105 wards, 18 executive members across the eight (8) Local Government Areas of the state.
The party said, with the full compliment of about 9 including vice chairmen in the Senatorial executives committee in the 3 senatorial District. Saying no party in bayelsa has that. “We have state working committees comprising of 14 members and all their assistants. So, we pride ourselves in this state that when we talk about grassroots structure , the PDP has the biggest structure in bayelsa state”.
Addressing a large crowd of members and supporters on Friday 17th April, 2026 at the 99th State Executive Committee Meeting at the Party Secretariat in Yenagoa the state capital, the state chairman of PDP Hon. Alabh George Turnar said, “when we talked about structures,the PDP has the biggest structures in bayelsa state. We secured a mandate which was freely renewed for this party first in 2019, God almighty intervened say no, PDP belong to Bayelsa state. PDP in bayelsa state is like the Israelites in the site of God , those who don’t know it should know it now that we are a people after God’s own heart”.
Turnar said, from 1999 till today every mandate of the PDP has been by the ballots through the thumb print of the people . Saying the only one that is not of the people and not by ballots is the current administration of All Progressives Congress (APC) in bayelsa state occupying government house temporarily because they have taken our mandate, “a mandate we worked so hard to secured, though it was a war but we got that mandate”
“But we are going to reclaim that mandate back. The national leadership of the PDP at the convention has declared that we must reclaim our mandate back in bayelsa, that mandate since 1999 we will reclaim it.
“I want to charge all of us that we are a team of destiny, only God knows why he brought us to emerged at this time when the nation is preparing for another circle which is 2027 elections, it means that we have to cut short our type of sleep , we have to reduce our leisure hours because there is a job to be done and this one job is a task that must be done , when you see God’s hand in a project, you will know.
“The 2023 mandate that would have given us problem again is now with us, which means 2027 is walk over when you have the Field Marshall leading in the front . Joshua Maciver was of PDP, we gave him out on loan and is back with us”, he said.
Also speaking, the newly registered members of PDP was a former deputy governorship candidate in 2023 governorship elections under the All Progressives Congress in bayelsa state Great Joshua Maciver said, he like to talk less and do more because he always called white white and black black , “I like to observe more and do more”.
Maciver said One thing he has observed is the intellectual and mental capacity of most of the team members of the state chairman, ” this are the people that can represent us both at the state and national level. Most of them are capable of handling greater things but they are not privilege”.
“With what am seen, if they are giving greater responsibilities, they will deliver and lead this state well to the level we all want. Our problems in bayelsa is leadership not that we don’t have the resources. We have the resources to development this state , but the biggest problem is greed.
“Most times, when somebody become a governor, the first he will think is how to become the richest person in bayelsa not about the name they want to make, but a good name outlived individuals instead of amassing unnecessary wealth.
“Some of us that are true izon leaders, not every leaders are true izon leaders , would prefer a good and a credible names than all the wealth put together. The progress of Bayelsa is something we can come together and take care of.
“Don’t be disturbed because the governor has defected, whether we like it or not PDP is more structured in bayelsa , the party is still more on ground, the people that defected are the governor and his people not the people in the villages
“Before Diri’s defections, APC has two factions, one is 95 percent while the other is 5 percent and is working with only five percent, believe me , that 95 percent he abandoned, 90 percent of it will defect to PDP, if you are not a leader you are not a leader.
“When he defected from the PDP, not even up to 10 percent of his PDP members defected with him. For Southern Ijaw, the governor cannot decide for the people, in a few days, few weeks, few months the chairman should be ready to receive those that will defect, it will be like a sunnami.
“Working with chairman and other members, we should produce some assembly members and my plan is that we produced the four state assembly members, house of representatives from southern ijaw. For out of the 24 members, we should get something reasonable because we are more on ground , it’s not just mere say but it’s something that is doable if we will not betray one another”, Maciver said.
Highlight of the occasion was a motion moved to ratified the appointment of BOT members representing Bayelsa state and former governorship candidate of APC in 2023 Guber elections, Great Joshua Maciver as the BOT members after registering as a PDP members in bayelsa state and after receiving his e-membership card of PDP during the 99th state Executive committee meeting.
A motion was also moved to renamed the state PDP Secretariat after late Sobere Appah was a staunch members of PDP since 1999 and have occupied several offices in the party in the state.
PDP in the state also thanked the National leadership of the party for standing by them morally, financially amongst others.
