2027: Olu of Ilaro leads Ogun West Obas to strategic meetings with Ijebu, Remo traditional rulers

Segun Olatunji

Ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State, the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, on Tuesday, led a delegation of Ogun West monarchs in separate strategic closed-door meetings with the Ijebu and Remo Traditional Councils, respectively.

The meetings were in furtherance of the Ogun West agenda aimed at producing a governor for the state in 2027, a position that has eluded the Ogun West Senatorial District in the past 50 years since the creation of the state.

According to a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland on Media and Strategic Communications, Adeola Adeyemi, the Ogun West royal fathers were first received by their over 40 Ijebu counterparts under the aegis of the Ijebu Traditional Council led by the Orimolusi of Ijebu-Igbo, Oba Lawrence Jaiyeoba Adebayo, at the palace of the palace of the Awujale of Ijebuland in Ijebu-Ode.

The Ogun West royal fathers’ delegation later proceeded to Remoland, where they were received by their Remo counterparts led by their Paramount Ruler, the Akarigbo of Remoland, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, CFR.

The statement entitled, “OBA OLUGBENLE LEADS OGUN WEST OBAS TO STRATEGIC MEETING WITH IJEBU AND REMO TRADITIONAL COUNCILS,” described both meetings held behind closed doors by the Ogun West royal fathers with their Ijebu and Remo counterparts as strategic consultations aimed at consolidating statewide support for the Ogun West governorship ambition, “with a unified front behind an adopted candidate, moving away from the region’s past pattern of presenting multiple candidates by political leaders.”

It further stated, “As engagements deepen towards 2027, one thing is certain: we are witnessing an unprecedented united front among Ogun West Obas and a renewed paradigm shift among political leaders, as the region prepares to claim the Gateway State’s top seat.

“The resolution remains clear: support for the most prepared, capable, credible, trusted, and widely acceptable candidate from the district, with verifiable records of service to the people, for the 2027 governorship election.

“As party primaries draw nearer, more strategic engagements are expected across key stakeholders and traditional institutions. At this critical juncture, the leadership of His Royal Majesty, Oba Olugbenle, remains a steady compass, positioning Ogun West for a decisive moment in 2027.”
