. All states’ delegates set to elect ex-Minister new PDP national chairman
Delegates at the ongoing 2025 Peoples Democratic Party Elective National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, unanimously confirmed Umaru Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party.

Chairman of the Edo State PDP, Tony Abineri, moved the motion to ratify Damagum, on behalf of the 3,000 delegates present at the convention, held at the main bowl of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Edward Marshal seconded the motion said to be in accordance with Section 32 of the PDP Constitution as amended.
While moving the motion, Abineri said, “I move the motion for the ratification of Umaru Damagum as the substantive National Chairman of the party.
“This is in accordance with the Section 32 of the Constitution of the PDP as amended.”
The ongoing convention on Saturday and Sunday, is expected to produce a new chairman in a voting exercise by the delegates across states nationwide.
Strong indications have however emerged that former Minister of Special Duties Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, may also be returned unopposed as PDP National Chairman, as he remains the only candidate vying for the position at the convention.
The delegates drawn from all 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, are expected to unanimously adopt Turaki as Chairman through their votes.
Oyo State Governor and Vice-Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Seyi Makinde, in his address to the delegates, applauded the commitment of PDP members to the growth of the party.
According to him, “It was a long stress of battle to get to this point. The memory of the 2025 PDP Elective Convention will remain evergreen not only in the memory of the members but the entire nation as a whole.”
The convention proceedings continue till Sunday.
