Renaissance Energy, partners take free medical outreach to Ofoni in Bayelsa

Renaissance African Energy Company Limited, in collaboration with Bayelsa State Ministry of Health and Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation, have taken a free Medical Outreach to hundreds of residents of Ofoni community in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa.

The ongoing four day medical mission commenced on Thursday at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Ofoni.

Hope Nuka, Corporate Relations Manager, Projects and Opportunities, Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited, represented Igo Weli, General Manager Relations and Sustainable Development, Renaissance.

He said the programme targets Oil Mining Lease (OML) 35 communities.

“Renaissance and our Joint Venture Partners, NNPC Limited, TotalEnergies and Agip Energy & Energy Resources (AENR) – acknowledge that today’s event represents another milestone in our shared commitment to advancing community health and well-being.

“This time, the focused eyecare initiative has been designed to serve the people of Ofoni communities covering Bolu-Orua, Toru Agiama, Ebedebiri, Toru-Orua, Agalabiri, Iriama, Lalagbene, Ayamasa, Alebiri in Sabama LGA, and neighbouring communities in Bayelsa State.,” he said.

Dr. Ngowari Torunana, Director of Medical Services, Ministry of Health in Bayelsa who represented the Commissioner for Health applauded the oil firm for collaborating with the state government on the free medical intervention.

He said that the medical outreach was targeted to improve the well-being and health conditions of the people of Ofoni Community.

According to him, the programme, Iseni phase 1 project/vision first program // services includes, eye surgeries, eye screening and consultations, dispensing of reading glasses.

Other services include dental care services, health awareness and education, cardiovascular screening,laboratory screening services, consulting and treatment of chronic and minor illness.

He noted that the medical team will also handle deworming and distribution of mosquito treated nets

Dr. Malachi Enakaitor who spoke to NAN on the outreach said the team comprises healthcare professionals across various spheres of medicine.

Enakaitor said with medical practitioner’s across the health spectrum, the team will bring quality healthcare to the doorsteps of rural community of Ofoni.

Mr Diepreye Jacob, a beneficiary, said he came to the health centre with his two eyes closed and unable to see.

“The medical team is wonderful. The doctors performed the surgery and my eyes are open, I can now see how beautiful the world is,” Jacob said.

Also present was Dr Williams Appah, Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Primary Health Care Board (BSPHCB) in Bayelsa State.

Traditional rulers in Ofoni community graced the occasion.
