…as Labour rejects fresh N60,000 offer, insists on N494,000

Inspite of Federal Government’s addition of the sum of N3,000 to its initially proposed N57,000 minimum wage, making it the sum of N60,000 proposed on Tuesday during a meeting of the tripartite committee on minimum wage in Abuja, the Organised Labour staged a walk-out from the meeting.
But Organised labour, comprising the Trade Union Congress and the Nigeria Labour Congress, also cut down N3,000 from its last proposal of N497,000 during the last minimum wage meeting, shifting its position from the previous stance to N494,000.
Recall that the Federal Government had initially proposed ₦48,000 and ₦54,000 last week, but both proposals were rejected by labour.
A source privy to the Tuesday meeting said that the amount proposed by FG did not go down well with the labour leaders.
With the labour unions’ deadline of May 31 fast approaching and the Tripartite Committee charged with negotiating a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers yet to reach a consensus, the organised Labour and the Federal Government are set for a showdown.
