Provost of the Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Dr Paul Femi Fashagba has kicked against any plan to scrap the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
He urged the Federal Government to jettison the idea of scrapping of TETFUND.
Fashagba gave the warning when he officially resumed office as the Provost on Monday.
The Provost noted that most higher institutions in the country could not function efficiently without the intervention of TETFUND.
He stressed that scrapping it would negatively affect and aggravate the situation in the nation’s public higher institutions.
Fashagba therefore urged the National Assembly, state governors, students’ union organisations and the Labour unions to expedite action on rescuing the education sector in the interest of the Nigerian public.
According to him, “Scrapping TETFUND will amount to committing suicide in Nigeria’s Tertiary institutions, which all of us must kick against.
“I am not against reforms in our Tertiary institutions. But if we all x-ray what TETFUND has done over the years, their services are still needed.
“The children of the poor will be the one to suffer this most because their parents won’t be able to afford private schools, especially when they couldn’t get what they desire in public schools.
“The Government should please reverse this proposed policy in the interest of the general public.”
