The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has announced the postponement of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination registration until Monday, February 3.
The registration, initially set to begin on Friday, January 31, was postponed to “allow the Board to implement essential adjustments to its registration templates.”
The Board’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X handle on Friday.
Benjamin stated that the postponement was due to the suspension of law programmes in some Nigerian universities, and the approval of deceitful facilities as Computer-Based Test centres in certain locations, among other factors.
The examination body apologised to prospective UTME candidates and other stakeholders for any inconvenience caused by the adjustments, assuring them of a seamless registration process.
“These adjustments come in light of the recent suspension of certain law programmes at selected universities, as submitted to the Board by the Council for Legal Education.
“Additionally, the Board discovered that some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres had used deceptive facilities to gain approval, prompting the need for further scrutiny and corrections by disapproving such centres.
“The Board acknowledges the disruption this may cause to candidates and other stakeholders and sincerely apologises for any inconvenience.
“The additional time will be used to ensure that all necessary changes are made for a smooth registration process,” the statement partly read.
On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, the Board announced that it would no longer conduct admissions for the Law programme in eight universities.
This decision followed the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws programme for the 2025/2026 academic session by the Council of Legal Education, according to Benjamin.
The affected universities are Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State; Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State; Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State; Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State.
Others include Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State; and the Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
JAMB also advised prospective candidates to begin preparations by securing their National Identification Number and a unique phone number.
“You can get your NIN ahead and a phone number that has not been previously used to register on our platform to generate your profile code prior to the time,” JAMB tweeted via its X handle on Wednesday.
Additionally, the examination body unveiled The Lekki Headmaster by Kabir Alabi Garba as the recommended reading text for the 2025 UTME Use of English paper.
