The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has declared readiness to ensure more Bayelsa Students benefit from the National Loan scheme.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr made this known in Abuja during a visit by the management of the Bayelsa State Higher Education Students Loan Board led by Dr. Michael Amaegberi.
Managing Director of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), Akintunde Sawyerr, represented by Ms. Yemi Caxton, expressed nelfund’s preparedness to collaborate with BYSHELB to ensure that more Bayelsans benefit from the national loan scheme.
She noted that Bayelsa State is behind most states with respect to accessing the national students loan, apparently, due to BYSHELB’s intervention and commended *the government of Bayelsa State* for the laudable initiative.
She, however, encouraged indigenes of the state to leverage on the national students’ loans as all states are equal stakeholders in Nelfund.
She further hinted on NELFUND’s preparedness to provide BYSHELB with necessary links with JAMB and other higher institutions’ platforms in order to ascertain real students and identify fake applications
In his address, the Executive Secretary of the Bayelsa State Higher Education Students Loan Board, Dr. Michael Amaegberi pointed out that the visit to NELFUND is to seek collaboration that will break a major barrier in the cost of higher education and play a key role in creating a more affordable and accessible education system.
Amaegberi informed the NELFUND management that the Bayelsa State Higher Education Students Loan Board has disbursed loans to thousands of students, empowering them to achieve their academic goals and eased the financial burden on students and their families which has led to motivation and confidence to excel in their studies.
The meeting resulted in both parties agreeing to collaborate and share best practices to create a more sustainable and inclusive education financing system.
According to observers in the Education sector, the partnership between the Bayelsa State Higher Education Students Loan Board and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund is a step in the right direction towards creating a brighter future for the youth of Nigeria.
