Nigeria, Abeokuta — A socio-cultural organisation, Olodo-de Elders Group of Yorubaland has launched a strong mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, calling on voters across the South-West to unite behind his administration and use their votes to sustain what the group described as an ongoing programme of economic transformation.
The elders declared that the 2027 presidential election would be a defining choice between consolidating the Tinubu administration’s reforms and risking a reversal of the current policy direction.
In a statement jointly signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Ogbeni Olajide Kamilu, and Senior Media Adviser, Elder Adetokunbo Fakeye, the group urged its members, supporters and voters across Yorubaland to take the Tinubu campaign message into their communities and mobilise for a renewed mandate.
The group cited fuel-subsidy removal, foreign-exchange reforms, increased revenue, infrastructure development, oil and gas reforms and efforts to attract investment among the administration’s major achievements.
It argued that the difficult decisions taken by Tinubu required continuity to produce lasting results.
“President Tinubu has taken difficult decisions that previous governments avoided. Nigeria cannot afford to reverse course now,” the elders said.
The group also fired a political salvo at opposition parties and presidential aspirants, challenging them to offer Nigerians more than criticism of the administration.
“Those seeking to replace the President must tell Nigerians what they will do differently, how they will do it and how they will finance it,” they said.
The elders said voters should demand concrete answers from opposition candidates on how they intend to address Nigeria’s economic challenges, create jobs, expand infrastructure and sustain investment.
While acknowledging the hardship confronting households, the group urged the Federal Government to intensify measures aimed at easing the cost-of-living crisis and protecting vulnerable Nigerians.
It also cited Nigeria’s reported 4.43 per cent year-on-year economic growth in the second quarter of 2026, compared with 3.89 per cent in the preceding quarter, as evidence, in its assessment, that the economy was responding to the administration’s reforms.
The elders commended efforts to reposition the oil and gas sector and attract investment, maintaining that sustained reforms and infrastructure development were necessary to strengthen Nigeria’s productive capacity.
The group subsequently issued its strongest appeal to voters, urging them not to leave the 2027 decision to political elites.
It called on supporters of the Tinubu administration across Yorubaland to mobilise from the grassroots, take the message of continuity to every community, ward and polling unit, and translate their support into votes on election day.
The elders urged voters who believe the reforms should continue to make their voices count through the ballot, saying that “support without votes is meaningless at the ballot box.”
They further called for a determined grassroots mobilisation ahead of 2027, urging communities to examine the records of all contenders and rally behind the candidate they believe offers the strongest pathway for Nigeria’s economic recovery and development.
The group maintained that the 2027 election would be a crucial test of whether Nigerians wanted to “consolidate, correct and continue” the present reform trajectory or abandon it for an alternative yet to be convincingly explained by the opposition.
It therefore urged voters across Yorubaland to “register, mobilise, turn out and vote,” insisting that the ultimate decision on Nigeria’s direction must be made by the electorate at the ballot box.
Olodo-de Elders Group declared that a renewed mandate for Tinubu would, in their assessment, give the administration the political space to consolidate reforms, accelerate infrastructure development, deepen investment and strengthen Nigeria’s productive capacity.
