Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Yobe State, Alhaji Baba Malam Wali, has pledged not to betray the trust reposed in him by Governor Mai Mala Buni and the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Geidam, if elected in the 2027 general elections.
Wali stated this when he visited the Emirs of Damaturu, Ngazargamu, Jajere and Gujba to formally introduce himself and seek their blessings and prayers.
Wali said he was endorsed as the party’s preferred candidate because of the confidence and trust reposed in him by Governor Buni and Senator Geidam.
According to him, Yobe politics is founded on loyalty and obedience within the party, adding that he would sustain the tradition, if elected governor.
The APC governorship flagbearer said Governor Buni demonstrated loyalty to his political mentor, Senator Geidam, throughout his eight years in office, without allowing disagreements or misunderstandings to affect their relationship.
He pledged to reciprocate the gesture by remaining loyal to both Buni and Geidam.
Wali said, “Governor Buni is a political mentee of our boss, Senator Ibrahim Geidam. He was anointed and mentored by him. The loyalty of Governor Buni to Ibrahim Geidam is unquestionable.
“I worked with Geidam as Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the State Government for over 12 years. I also worked with Governor Buni as SSG for over seven years. I enjoyed working with both of them and gained huge experience from that relationship.
“If elected, I will govern Yobe with honesty and integrity through their advice and guidance. I will not betray them. They are my mentors and they will guide me and my cabinet.”
On his governance agenda, the APC candidate said his administration would be anchored on continuity, consolidation and innovation, with a commitment to building on the achievements of the Buni administration.
“If elected, our government will be about continuity, consolidation and innovation. I will build on Mai Mala Buni’s legacy and ensure that the good works already started are sustained and further developed,” he said.
Wali also assured the traditional institutions of his respect and pledged to work closely with them to promote the progress, peace and stability of the state.
In their responses, the Emirs of Damaturu, Alhaji Shehu Hashimu Ibn Al-Amin El-Kanemi; Ngazargamu, Alhaji Mustapha Ibn Mahmoud; and Gujba, Alhaji Mai Mukhtar Ibn Ali Gangaran, expressed their support for Wali’s candidature.
They urged him to remain committed to the people and meet their expectations if elected governor.
