The deputy chairman of the Bauchi State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and two-time House of Reps member from Misau-Dambam Federal Constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Makama Misau has dumped the party, along with 76 Local Government and Ward Executive members in Misau Local Government Area have defected to the Peoples Redemption Party, (PRP) ahead of the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election.

Misau is the Local Government Area of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate.

The defectors announced their decision in a series of resignations following what they described as “Injustices of imposition of unpopular candidates on party loyalists,” pledging support for Senator Shehu Buba Umar’s 2027 governorship bid under the PRP platform.

In a gathering coordinated by Hon. Maiwada Bakoji Misau and Hon. Shehu DubaGari Misau described the move as a “Political awakening” driven by the need for justice, fairness and inclusive leadership in Bauchi State.

Speaking at the gathering, the former APC executives cited lack of internal democracy, poor leadership and neglect of grassroots members as reasons for leaving the party.

“We are joining the PRP because politics should be about service to humanity, empowerment and meaningful development,” the group said. They expressed confidence in Senator Umar’s record of grassroots engagement and community development.

Also majority of the defectors are from the Minister of Health, Professor Ali Mohammed Pate’s Ajili/Gugulin Ward in Misau Local Government Area.

The defectors assured Senator Umar of their commitment to mobilize support for the PRP ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that over 3,000 APC EXCO members across Bauchi State have so far left the party.

Welcoming the new members, Senator Shehu Buba Umar said the PRP would guarantee equal treatment and active participation for all members.

“The PRP remains committed to justice, unity, transparency, and people-oriented leadership,” Senator Umar said. “We are ready to offer Bauchi people credible alternative leadership.”

He urged supporters to remain united as preparations for 2027 continue.

Political observers say the mass defection strengthens the PRP’s influence in Bauchi and signals a shift in political alignments ahead of the elections.
